Postdoc position in cryo-EM (NNF-CPR) A postdoc position in cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) is available in the Taylor group (Structural Biology of Molecular Machines) at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research, University of Copenhagen. The position is for 2 years in the first instance and can be renewed for up to 4 years in total, providing a unique long-term opportunity to work on an exciting project in a well-equipped and supportive environment. Responsibilities and tasks The Structural Biology of Molecular Machines Group (https://www.cpr.ku.dk/research/protein-structure-function-program/taylor/), led by Nicholas Taylor, studies different molecular machines involved in transport across the cell membrane. The proposed project studies contractile injection systems involved in the transfer of toxins into eukaryotic cells. The postdoc will be involved in the preparation of samples and their investigation by cryo-electron microscopy as well as in data collection, analysis and interpretation. Furthermore, this person will perform complementary biological experiments to complement and strengthen structural results. We have excellent direct access to an FEI Titan Krios microscope, equipped with Falcon 3EC direct electron detector and Volta phase plates at the Core Facility for Integrated Microscopy. The position is available immediately but the starting date will be agreed upon with the selected candidate. Qualifications Candidates for the postdoctoral positions must be expecting or holding a PhD degree (or equivalent). The successful candidate will have strong qualifications or experience within several of the following areas: Protein purification, especially of large protein complexes. (Cryo-)electron microscopy. Molecular biology (especially molecular cloning). Experience with membrane proteins. Experience with electron tomography is a plus. The position might also be of interest to people with experience in other structural biology areas (crystallography, NMR, computational modelling…) who are eager to learn cryo-EM. Strong team player skills are required. Place of employment and work The employment is at CPR (www.cpr.ku.dk), University of Copenhagen, located in central Copenhagen. The research environment at CPR is ambitious and international, with approx. 30 different nationalities currently represented.
