Job description

The doping control laboratory (DoCoLab) of the Ghent University (UGent) is one of the few WADA-accredited doping control laboratories worldwide. Only WADA-accredited laboratories are allowed to analyze doping control samples and our high level of quality is guaranteed by DoCoLab’s ISO17025 accreditation, issued by Belac.

As a doping laboratory, we focus at countering the newest doping trends by constantly updating our existing methods, developing reliable innovative approaches and searching for new long term markers. Research has always been a major focus and the current vacancy is a continuation of this policy. DoCoLab is in the top 3 worldwide concerning doping control research and we are looking for a candidate to further expand our position and continue the fight against doping. In order to maintain top level, DoCoLab invests continuously in state of the art instrumentation. The current vacancy will primarily focus on detection of doping-agents with gas and liquid chromatography mass spectrometry.

Our offer:

  • Opportunity to obtain a PhD degree. All funding is provided and there is no need to apply for a scholarship.

  • The opportunity to work with state of the art instrumentation. Amongst various other equipment, DoCoLab has 20 gas and liquid chromatography instruments including four GC triple quadrupole MS instruments, two GC QTOFs and four LC high resolution mass spectrometry (Q)Exactive instruments at its disposal.

  • Working with very experienced co-workers with lots of know-how.

  • Position in a growing environment with pleasant colleagues.

  • The current position is an ideal stepping stone for further career development. There is a lot of demand for personnel skilled in analytical techniques such as GCMS and LCMS. On top of that, DoCoLab is an accredited laboratory with a high standard quality system. Knowledge on quality control is a great asset as it is of high importance in all industries and companies.

Profile of the candidate

  • Degree of master in chemistry, bio-engineer, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, biomedical sciences or equivalent.

  • Minimal grade of Master diploma: distinction (70% and above). Preferably higher as we are looking for top personnel.

  • Highly motivated and with critical attitude.

  • Interested in research and very eager to acquire new competences and skills in chromatography and mass spectrometry.
