The University of California Irvine (UCI) School of Medicine, Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, invites applications from MD or MD-PhD board-certified molecular pathologists to direct the Division of Molecular Pathology & Cytogenetics. The full-time academic appointment may be at the Assistant or Associate level in the Health Sciences Clinical or Clinical X series, depending on experience and extent of research effort. Clinical X appointments confer membership in the UCI Academic Senate.


As Director of Molecular Pathology & Cytogenetics, the successful recruit will have the administrative and interpersonal skills to effectively lead and coordinate clinical, teaching, and research activities within and beyond the division. Candidates should have extensive and current clinical expertise in Molecular Pathology. Directorship responsibilities will also include a newly-approved Cytogenetics/FISH Laboratory with separate faculty cytogeneticist; accordingly, experience and/or knowledge of cytogenetics lab operations is preferred. Clinical licensure and board certification in Molecular Pathology are required, as is dedication to teaching and mentoring, which will involve medical students, graduate students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty.


The successful recruit will also have the skills to carry out Molecular Pathology-related research as a thought leader or collaborative team member. Extramural research funding is welcome, but not required. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience.
