Aufgaben PhD in Molecular Virology We are looking for a talented and highly motivated PhD student to join the research group of PD Dr. Hanna-Mari Baldauf at the Max von Pettenkofer-Institute, Department of Virology at the LMU Munich. The position is funded for 36 months (TV-L E13, 65%) and available in early / mid 2020. Based on our reported high natural permissivity of primary rabbit cells for HIV and the identified cell-type specific defect in HIV infectivity (Tervo and Keppler, J Virol. 2010;84(23):12300-14. doi: 10.1128/JVI.01607-10), we investigated the antiviral activity of SERINC3/5 orthologs (de Sousa-Pereira et al., J Gen Virol. 2019 Feb;100(2):278-288. doi: 10.1099/jgv.0.001201). Within this project, we are now interested in identifying the third barrier to full HIV permissivity in rabbit cells and characterize the other two barriers in more detail using biochemical, immunobiological and virological approaches. Anforderungen Previous work in virology or with primary cells will be of advantage, but is not mandatory. Applicants should be strongly committed to science with great interest in molecular virology and the ability to conduct independent research. The PhD position requires a master´s degree/diploma in life sciences or related disciplines.
