PhD Position at the intersection of clinical epidemiology and musculoskeletal health


60 % - Full-time 3-year position according to the PhD salary regulations of the University of Zurich.


This PhD position offers a unique collaborative setting within the Department of Chiropractic Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and the Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Prevention Institute (https://www.ebpi.uzh.ch/en/aboutus/departments/epidemiology.html), at the University of Zurich and Balgrist University Hospital (https://www.balgrist.ch/en/).

The Balgrist Campus offers a modern state-of-the-art work environment, with high level collaborative opportunities within epidemiology and related disciplines at the University of Zurich.

Your responsibilities

Key objectives of the project are to develop and implement a practice-based clinical data registry and prospective cohort study to investigate and improve real-world chiropractic clinical data and outcomes for musculoskeletal health care quality improvement. Within the context of this overall project aim, the successful PhD candidate will be involved in the development of the clinical data registry system, recruitment of patients and project co-management for a prospective cohort study, and do methodological and applied clinical research in the context of the project.

Your profile

To perform successfully, potential candidates should have a strong interest in clinical epidemiology. Experience and knowledge of musculoskeletal health and conditions are a strong asset. Candidates are expected to be able to work independently and in teams and have excellent written and oral communication skills.
Language requirement: English – Proficient oral and written English skills are required.

While working in an international, interdisciplinary and innovative research environment at the University of Zurich and Balgrist University Hospital, the PhD student will be jointly co-supervised by Dr Cesar Hincapié (Department of Chiropractic Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Zurich and Balgrist University Hospital) and Prof Dr med Milo Puhan (Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Prevention Institute, University of Zurich).

The successful candidate will be matriculated and will have a working contract at University of Zurich. He/she will work in Switzerland, in the beautiful City of Zurich.

Start of employment
