The Opportunity

A research assistant is required to work closely with Professor Rosemary Horne whose research focuses on sleep in children and infants. The Research Assistant will join a team of scientists and clinicians studying various aspects of paediatric sleep, including sleep and respiratory control in preterm infants, sleep disordered breathing in children and sleep in children with developmental and chronic conditions. The Research Assistant will be involved in maintaining databases and entering research data. They will also be involved in recruiting children for various research studies being carried out in the Department of Paediatrics located at Monash Children's Hospital.

The candidate's responsibilities:

  • Assist in recruitment of subjects for research projects and make bookings for testing associated with research projects. Be responsible for ensuring timely contact with families enrolled in research projects to ensure related testing occurs according to study protocols
  • Assist in the scoring and data entry of sleep, psychological and behavioural assessments;
  • Assist in the conduct of physiological studies in infants and children during sleep, including setting up recording equipment, data collection and analysis and preparation of results and reports;
  • Maintaining databases
  • Assisting students with data analysis and statistical analysis as required.

The candidate's attributes:

A Bachelor of Science, Biomedical Science, Neuroscience with Honours and at least 1-2 years of relevant work experience, is required.

Good interpersonal skills, particularly in dealing with young children and parents.

Expertise in statistical analysis.

Familiarity with Compumedics sleep recording equipment and LabChart and MatLab software would be an advantage.

This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
