Job description

Job summary

A Research Associate in Epidemiology and Spatial Modelling position is available at Imperial College London (ICL) as part of a joint interdisciplinary project between ICL and Conservation International. The project ‘Insights for Catalysing Conservation’ seeks to understand how, why and when biodiversity conservation initiatives go to scale, have rapid and widespread adoption. This research position will focus on understanding the spatial drivers of spread.

Duties and responsibilities

You will work together with students and postdoctoral researchers within the Centre for Environmental Policy and Conservation International, under the direct supervision of Dr Morena Mills and in close collaboration with Dr Anna Freni Sterrantino from the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics

You will be in charge of running spatial statistical analysis to investigate possible associations between adoption of conservation initiatives and adopter and environmental factors. You will work in close collaboration with researchers focussed on different conservation initiatives to pilot the use of this technique to address why conservation goes to scale. If successful, the models you develop will be used to explore the spread of multiple conservation initiatives around the world.

Essential requirements

You must hold a PhD, (or equivalent) in Epidemiology, Statistics, Environmental Management, Conservation Science or a related field.

You must also meet the following essential criteria:

  • Experience running research projects
  • Experience with statistics, spatial modelling in particular with Bayesian statistical models with R-INLA.

  • Enjoy working in teams to solve interdisciplinary problems
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and with confidence with colleagues
