Research Assistant / Associate in Neuroscience / Neuroendocrinology
University of Cambridge
United Kingdom

We are looking for a highly motivated and independent postdoctoral Research Associate to join Professor Allan Herbison's research group. Our research focusses on understanding the neural networks that control puberty and fertility in males and females. Studies will focus on investigating the properties of the hypothalamic kisspeptin neurons that operate as the pulse generator for mammalian fertility. See:

Key responsibilities will include: - Undertaking GCaMP fiber photometry recordings from the hypothalamic kisspeptin neuron population in freely behaving rodents. - To elucidate the mechanisms through which specific neural inputs regulate the timing and frequency of the kisspeptin pulse generator.

Skills required are precision stereotaxic surgery skills for deep brain structures and experience using viral vectors for transducing neuronal cells. Any previous experience with GCaMP fiber photometry investigations in conscious mice would be advantageous. Experience with breeding and maintaining genetically modified rodent lines and an understanding of neuroendocrine circuits controlling fertility would be preferred.

You should hold a PhD, or about to be awarded a PhD in the field of neuroscience/neuroendocrinology.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
