We are looking to appoint an exceptional and highly motivated individual for a full-time post conducting pre-clinical work on patients with advanced liver disease. The successful post holder will join Dr O’Brien’s team at UCL’s Division of Medicine consisting of a postdoctoral research associate, 2 PhD students, a research nurse, data manager and clinical team. The appointee will work alongside other members of the team on a new project looking at changes in immunometabolism and their link to immune function, in order to translate research discoveries into developing better, more effective treatments for advanced liver disease patients. The work will employ a wide range of techniques including isolation and culture of human primary cells, immune function studies using Flow cytometry; RNA extraction and qPCR; and plasma metabolomics analysis. The post is funded by the UCLH Biomedical Research Centre for 1 year in the first instance and is available to start at the beginning of September 2019. The post holder must possess a BSc or MSc in biological sciences or in a relevant discipline. Experience of working in a laboratory environment as part of a team including Health & Safety issues and having the ability to keep up with the relevant scientific literature are all essential. Previous experience of working with human samples to GCLP standards and Flow Cytometry technique is required, although further training can be provided.
