Research Assistant I/II (2 posts) in the Division of Public Health Laboratory Sciences (PHLS) of the School of Public Health (Ref.: 494054) (to commence as soon as possible on a two-year fixed-term basis or a one-year temporary basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)

 

Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree in cell and molecular biology. Experience in handling animal or clinic specimens, performing nucleic acid extraction, processing RNA samples for RT-PCR tests, DNA sequencing and viral culture will be an advantage.

 

The appointees will work in a research team led by Professor Malik Peiris focusing on the circulation and transmission of influenza viruses in mammalian and avian hosts. They will handle clinical samples, involve in collecting samples of other host species in the field, and perform other research-related duties as assigned. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment on fixed terms will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme totalling up to 10% of basic salary.
