About This Opportunity

Working within the Rolfe Group at AIBN, your role will include undertaking laboratory research aimed at increasing our understanding of the role of the innate immune system in cancer, and the development of new immunotherapeutic drugs. This includes the analysis of tissues from experimental animals using flow cytometry, quantitative real-time PCR, ELISA, immunoblotting, immunohistochemistry and fluorescence microscopy.

Other duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting experiments, including preparation, sampling, data collection and analysis
  • Providing administrative and financial management support for research projects and programs
  • Providing general laboratory support, including ordering and maintaining consumables
  • Detailed documentation of experiments and results including maintaining accurate and up to date electronic laboratory records 

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

A high level of competency with flow cytometry and analysis of flow data is integral to the role in addition to your prior experience in cell culture, immunological and molecular techniques (immunochemistry, ELISA, qPCR) and animal disease models. Other pre-requisites include:

  • a Bachelor degree in relevant area of Science (eg. immunology, cell biology, molecular biology or related field)
  • ability to practically apply theoretical principles and techniques
  • ability to rapidly learn new skills and use new technologies 
  • proven ability work successfully independently and collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • high-level of communication skills

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term position for up to 12 months at HEW level 5.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $69,408.41 - $77,306.82, plus super of up to 17%.
