The European Medical School is a cooperation of the University of Oldenburg and the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen with the participation of Oldenburg hospitals and doctors in private practice in the region. In addition to establishing the model study program "Human Medicine", the above-mentioned organizations also work closely together in research.

In the Department of Anatomy of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg and the Department of Biomedical Sciences of Cells & Systems at the University Hospital Groningen, a temporary position is available as

Research Assistant (m/f/d)

(E13 TV-L)

with 65% of the regular working time for three years.

The position offers the possibility of a doctorate in Oldenburg and Groningen.

The aim of the basic and translational research project is to characterize the interactions of proteins with a potential role in the development of the nervous system with the machinery for cellular quality control. Methodologically, the main focus is on cell culture-based methods, histological and immunohistological procedures, detection methods at the protein level, animal experiments and microscopy techniques.

Your tasks

  • responsible independent work and a high degree of scientific commitment
  • planning and execution of experiments and transfer of the gained knowledge into medically relevant systems and animal models
  • development of cell-based systems for cellular quality control analysis
  • execution of molecular biology, cell biology and animal experiments
  • evaluation and interpretation of data
  • development and application of technical solutions
  • participation in congresses and presentation of data
  • supervision of students and medical doctoral candidates
  • maintaining contact between the partners in Oldenburg and Groningen

In the first two years the workplace is mainly at the University of Oldenburg and in the third year at the University Hospital Groningen (UMCG).

Employment requirements:

An academic university degree in the fields of life science, biology, biochemistry, human medicine or in a comparable discipline, as well as good written and spoken German or Dutch as well as English skills are required. Preferably, you have a background in cell or molecular biology, proven initial practical experience as well as team spirit and enjoy interdisciplinary work. In addition to general knowledge of cell biology, molecular biology and biochemistry, the practical implementation of routine cell culture procedures and common DNA and protein detection methods in a safe and routine manner as well as animal and/or human experimental research experience is desired. The basic willingness to perform animal experiments is expected for successful completion of the task.
