Applications are invited for the position of Research Assistant in the group of Professor George Vassiliou within the Department of Haematology and the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus ( This project will focus on understanding what causes DNA damage in blood cells and how such DNA damage can lead to bone marrow failure and leukaemia.

The post holder will be well-grounded in basic cell and molecular biology techniques and have excellent communication and organisational skills. The post holder will support the research team in a wide variety of molecular and cellular studies. These will include cell line maintenance, genetic manipulation of cell lines, handling primary human and murine samples, flow cytometry analysis, and DNA/RNA/protein isolation.

The post holder must have research laboratory experience in molecular biology (preferably blood cell biology and DNA damage/repair). Specific experience in cell culture, CRISPR-Cas9 genetic manipulation of cells, genome-wide CRISPR screens, and flow cytometry analysis of bone marrow cells is desirable but not essential. The successful candidate must hold a university degree in a relevant subject.

This appointment is full time.

Fixed term: The funds for this post are available for 18 months in the first instance.
