Research Assistant

Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering a Research Assistant position commencing 01.06.2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Description of the scientific environment

The position is available in the Microbiota & Metabolomics Research group of Assistant Professor Henrik Munch Roager at the Section for Preventive and Clinical Nutrition. The section conducts research to reduce health risks by specific foods and diets. The exposure to foods and their effects are studied in cohorts, by human dietary intervention studies, and by several lines of advanced sample analyses including cutting-edge metabolomics and microbiomics.

The position is open from 01.06.2021 and available for a 1-year period.

Job description

The current position is part of a project called MOTILITY – Diet-derived microbial metabolites to modulate gut motility in infants supported by the Independent Research Fund Denmark. The job includes assistance in establishment of an infant cohort with the purpose of investigating interactions between early life nutrition, bowel habits and the gut microbiota development.

Key tasks include:

  • Assistance in writing an application for ethical approval
  • Recruitment to the cohort study
  • Planning, management and coordination of cohort activities
  • Handling and processing of biological samples
  • Participation in the scientific activities of the group

Formal requirements

We are looking for highly motivated applicants with the following competencies and experiences:

  • A MSc degree in Human Nutrition, Microbiology, Biology, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics or related field with excellent results.
  • An independent, rational and pragmatic mindset promoting collaboration and solutions.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized personality with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills in both spoken and written Danish and English.
  • Previous experience with human intervention/cohort studies.
  • Basic knowledge in the fields of nutrition, gut microbiology, and data analysis in R.

Terms of employment

The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.
Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

The starting annual salary is currently at a minimum DKK 355,396 including annual supplement (+ 17.1 % pension) Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
