Position Overview


The Department of Community Health Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator. 


Position Description


Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):


  • Timely delivery of outputs to Faculty
  • Working closely with the Principle Investigator in the coordination of project resources
  • Responsible for the administration and coordination of research projects
  • Contribution to the overall research, learning and development objectives of the research
  • Leadership in the preparation of manuscripts, reports and other scientific products
  • Contribute to and foster the positive team environment
  • Present specialized, technical information and research results to internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop and coordinate a variety of analytical processes, using complex software and techniques as required by the project and in support of the Principle Investigator
  • Contribute towards effective internal communications between faculty, team members, and all the external stakeholders
  • Provide research support, produce reports, and administer research policies and procedures
  • Exhibit a commitment to mentorship and training of students and junior staff
  • May be called upon by the Principle Investigator to act as their representative in the presentation of the research material to internal or external agencies, related publications, or journals

Qualifications / Requirements:


  • MPH, MSc. or PhD in a health-related discipline. Allied health professional trained (e.g. social work, nursing) will also be considered
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience in a health related discipline
  • Extensive knowledge of theory and practical application of research policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated strength in communication, interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team
  • Demonstrated ability and comfort to work collaboratively with community partners
  • Ability to provide support to other members of the team
  • Experience with both qualitative and quantitative research required; experience with ethnography, systematic reviews, secondary data analysis and health policy is an asset
  • Demonstrated proficiency in scientific writing, including scientific abstracts, manuscripts for peer-review, and other scientific products
  • Experience in public speaking and presenting at research forums
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in STATA and NVivo
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of University core business systems is desirable
