Salary: £26,243 - £30,395 (Research Assistant) / £32,236 - £39,609 (Research Associate) depending on experience.

As a leading UK centre for Palliative and End of Life Care research, we are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant or postdoctoral Research Associate to conduct a realist review of the management of complicated grief in primary care.

Over 500,000 people die each year in England and Wales, leaving approximately 2.5 million family and friends affected by bereavement. While many people work through bereavement with informal support, a proportion experience complicated grief reactions that need professional support. This review investigates what works, for whom, under what circumstances and how, in identifying and managing bereaved people experiencing complicated grief.

The draft protocol outlines the planned review and supporting team. You will be a member of the Primary Care Unit's Palliative and End-of-Life Care Group, a warm and collegiate environment for pursuing research in this challenging area of care. Dr Wong has particular expertise in realist methods and will provide training and support as needed.

Applicants should have experience of literature reviewing and writing research publications, with strong organisational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Applicants for Research Assistant level should have a degree in a relevant discipline: applicants for Research Associate level should have a PhD in a relevant discipline such as social science or health services research, or equivalent. Experience and expertise in realist review or realist evaluation would be desirable, but not essential.

The post is funded by the Evidence Synthesis Working Group of the National Institute for Health Research School for Primary Care Research.

Limit of tenure: Funds are available for a 15-month full-time appointment.

Primary Care Unit, Department of Public Health and Primary Care, Cambridge Institute of Public Health, Robinson Way, Cambridge Biomedical Campus, Cambridge CB2 0SR (approx. 2 miles south of city centre)
