Applications are invited for the post of Research Assistant/Associate/Fellow to join a multi-disciplinary research team in severe and profound hearing loss within Hearing Sciences, based at the NIHR Nottingham BRC. Hearing Sciences consists of research teams led by an internationally recognised group of senior scientists, with research that spans the full range of approaches from basic auditory neuroscience to applied clinical research. 

The purpose of this role will be to work as part of a team to deliver research on the development and validation of a questionnaire to measure quality of life in teenagers and young adults who use cochlear implants in both ears. Cochlear implants are devices that restore useful aspects of hearing in people whose degree of hearing loss means they would not benefit from hearing aids. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the planning and conduct of the work using approaches or methodologies and techniques appropriate to the type of research, and to contribute to the writing up the work for publication.

We also benefit from the support of dedicated staff, facilities and resources via the NIHR Clinical Research Facility and NIHR Clinical Research Network to help recruit to and deliver our clinical research studies.

Candidates at Research Associate/Fellow level should have a PhD or equivalent (or be close to completion) in a relevant subject area such as hearing or auditory sciences, sensory research, outcomes measurement, or psychometrics. Candidates at Research Assistant level should have a BSc or equivalent in hearing or auditory sciences, sensory research, outcomes measurement, psychometrics. All candidates should possess excellent communication skills, demonstrating an ability to communicate on all levels within a multi-disciplinary team.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for two years. The post is full-time (36.25 hours per week) however applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 29 hours per week).
