Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Associate to join the Department of Infectious Disease. The post is funded by Innovation UK, you will undertake a research programme, under the supervision of Professor Xiao-Ning Xu, to develop monoclonal antibodies against carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) for an early diagnostic system on antimicrobial resistance.


Duties and responsibilities

You will identify antibodies specific to CRE using a phage human antibody library and/or isolate memory B cells to generate human monoclonal antibodies to CRE by single B cell manipulation. Other research duties may include identifying and developing suitable techniques, and apparatus, for the collection and analysis of data.


Essential requirements

You must have expertise on molecular biology and protein expression / purification, with experience (desirable) in monoclonal antibody / B cell technologies and deep knowledge in the field of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Your practical experience within a research environment and / or publication in relevant and refereed journals, backed by a PhD in immunology or a closely related discipline is essential for this role.


Further information

The post is full time, fixed term for 12 months and is available immediately.

Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £35,477 - £38,566 per annum.
