Research Associate in Axonal ER Architecture in Neurodegeneration

The Department of Genetics is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the group of Dr Cahir O'Kane in Cambridge.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on a project, funded by the Spastic Paraplegia Foundation, on the relationship between ultrastructure of ER, and vulnerability of axons to degeneration in the disease Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia, using mammalian brainbank samples and Drosophila mutants.

Applicants should have a PhD in a biological science, some experience of biological electron microscopy, and experience or knowledge of as many as possible of the following areas; Drosophila genetics, neuronal cell biology, confocal microscopy and live imaging. The project might suit a candidate with EM experience who would like to develop their Drosophila, neuroscience, or cell biology skills in an interactive setting.
