Research Associate in Cardiovascular Sciences
University of Cambridge Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience
United Kingdom

The Giussani Lab is an active cardiovascular group based in the Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience and The Barcroft Centre at the University of Cambridge. In addition to traditional lifestyle risk factors, such as smoking and a sedentary life, the quality of our prenatal development plays a key role in determining whether we suffer heart disease. The quality of our environment in the womb is determined by the available nutrient and oxygen supply. We have programmes of work investigating how low oxygen conditions in the womb or maternal obesity during pregnancy can affect the risk of cardiovascular disease in the mother and offspring using ovine and rodent preclinical models. The Giussani Lab is an inclusive and welcoming group, committed to mentoring and supporting the career development of all members.

We are looking for a Post Doctoral Research Associate to join our energetic and friendly team investigating the effects of maternal obesity during pregnancy on fetal cardiovascular development in sheep. The work is funded by the Medical Research Council. You will be the key person to manage the programme, assist with surgery, run the experiments, analyse the data and write a component of the manuscripts arising from the work.

Candidates should have excellent organisational, management, data analysis and presentation skills. Experience with surgery and performing experiments in ovine models is desirable. Knowledge of in vitro wire mography, cellular and/or molecular techniques is a bonus.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance, with a start date of 1 March 2022.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a security check.
