Job description

Job summary

The National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI), Imperial College is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to work in the Section of Airway Disease. The post holder will work under the supervision of Prof Fan Chung and Dr Pankaj Bhavsar within a large multidisciplinary group focusing on airway dysfunction and inflammation in severe asthma. 


MRC-funded grant on ‘PRISM: Molecular phenotyping of patients with severe asthma to determine response to biologic therapies and stability’. The vision of the PRISM consortium, led by Prof Chung,   is to introduce precision medicine to severe asthma by taking advantage of the great strides made in the molecular phenotyping of asthma by several consortia including U-BIOPRED  that has taken a systems approach to describe the finger-prints (single-omics) and hand-prints (multi-omics) of severe asthma.


Duties and responsibilities

You will contribute to the smooth running of laboratories and, facilities with other scientists, clinicians, technicians and students within the laboratories. You will write reports for submission to research sponsors. You will also contribute actively in the management and maintenance of the laboratory facilities and research databases. You will also participate in Group research meetings, internal seminars Face-to Face and TC meetings.

Essential requirements

This is an excellent opportunity for a post-doctoral scientist to work within a well-funded world class 5* (RAE) department. You will be a highly motivated individual, with a background in biochemistry, cell biology or a related biological science. Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills and a creative approach to problem solving, together with the ability to work under pressure while maintaining a high degree of accuracy. 


Further information

This post is full-time and fixed term for up to 2 years and nine months and you will be based at the Royal Brompton campus.

Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £35,477 - £38,566 per annum.
