Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 1 year in the first instance.

Applications are invited for 2 post-doctoral researchers to work with Dr. Steven F. Lee and Prof. Michele Vendruscolo at the Department of Chemistry, University of Cambridge. The posts are to work on a research programme recently funded through the ASAP (Aligning Science Across Parkinson's) worldwide initiative (https://parkinsonsroadmap.org/).

The scope of this programme is to provide an 'oligomer map' of Parkinson's brain to identify the regions where the disease is progressing and to enable their systematic study. The interdisciplinary program involves close collaborations with UCL and The Francis Crick institute, as well as Cambridge.

This role will work with Dr. Steven Lee on microscopy methods to quantify misfolded oligomers formed by alpha-synuclein in human Parkinson's brains.

Applicants should have (or be about to obtain) a PhD in a relevant subject. Experience in biophysics, physical chemistry, optics, photonics or related disciplines will also be considered. Experience with single-molecule fluorescence techniques, advanced microscopy, hardware automation and programming (ImageJ, MATLAB, python etc.) would be advantageous.

All candidates should have a keen interest in applying physical methods to complex systems and enjoy working in a highly multidisciplinary, dynamic and collaborative environment.

The post will be available from January 2021, or as soon as possible thereafter.

This is a fixed-term position with funds for the post being available for one year in the first instance, with the possibility of further funding.
