Professor Simon Luckman’s team uses a multidisciplinary approach covering the study of genes, cells and behaviour related to appetite and body weight regulation. Their research includes the molecular phenotyping of specific neuronal types, patch-clamp electrophysiology, circuit mapping and optogenetic stimulation, linked with the measurement of physiological and behavioural outputs. In this project, we aim to characterise specific populations of neurone based on their ability to distinguish nutritional, hormonal and aversive signals. You will be enthusiastic, highly motivated, have a relevant track record and be capable of driving the research. You will record responses and then manipulate the neurones selectively using the latest electrophysiological, photometric and optogenetic techniques. You will collaborate as a team with other members of the lab on this and on other relevant projects involving molecular phenotyping, circuit mapping and physiological/behavioral recording.

Successful candidates may be subject to pre-employment screening carried out on our behalf by a third party. The offer of employment will be dependent on the successful candidate passing that screening. Whilst you will be required to provide express consent at a later stage, by continuing with your application now you acknowledge that you are aware that such screening will take place, and agree to take part in the process.
