£27025 to £39609 per annum, (pro rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience (minimum £30395 with relevant PhD). Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance

An opportunity for a Research Associate/Fellow with excellent bioinformatic skills has arisen within the Division of Respiratory Medicine and BRC respiratory theme at the City Hospital campus of the University of Nottingham. The role holder will join an established team, led by Professor Gisli Jenkins, and undertake research funded by a prestigious NIHR Professorial award. Professor Jenkins' main area of research is the pathogenesis of fibrotic lung diseases, with the aim to develop a biomarker guided strategy to treat patients with these progressive conditions.


The purpose of this role will be to have specific responsibility for bioinformatic analysis of a range of research databases, to develop research objectives and proposals for a research project using a variety of data sets including ‘big data’ sets (Multi-omics), as well as conventional datasets (physiology, admissions, survival and quality of life questionnaires), and through the various collaborations proposed there will be access to large datasets from the UK (CPRD, NHS Digital, UK Biobank), EU (EU IPF Registry), USA (EHR, Global IPF Network) and beyond (Australian IPF Registry). The person appointed will be expected to plan and conduct work using approaches or methodologies and techniques appropriate to the type of research, and will be responsible for writing up their work for publication. 


The person appointed will have the opportunity to use their initiative and creativity to identify areas for research, develop research methods and extend their research portfolio through collaboration with the Nottingham Advanced Data Analysis Centre. 


This full time post will be offered on a fixed term contract until 31st March 2023. Job share arrangements may be considered.
