We are currently seeking a postdoctoral molecular biologist to join a collaborative BBSRC project entitled “The beginning and end of poly(A) tails” led by Cornelia de Moor (Pharmacy, Nottingham) and Martin Bushell (The Beatson Institute, Glasgow). We have found that the poly(A) tail size of mRNAs is regulated in the nucleus and that there is a large variety in the poly(A) size changes during the lifetime of different mRNAs, indicating the existence of a novel layer in the regulation of gene expression. This project is aimed at understanding this diversity of regulation of poly(A) tail size and will investigate how the different poly(A) dynamics are reflected the regulation of mRNA translation and stability, including in microRNA mediated control. Genome wide datasets for poly(A) tail size and mRNA stability will be obtained and compared to existing datasets on protein and ribosome association by the collaborating bioinformatics team, followed by experimental validation of the findings.  For more information about the project, contact cornelia.de_moor@nottingham.ac.uk.

Candidates must have a PhD submitted or awarded in molecular biology or a related subject, or have equivalent experience.  We are looking for candidates with a proven ability to produce high quality data, but we recognise that the evidence may not yet be published.

This full-time post is a BBSRC funded fixed-term contract for a period of 30 months. Start date to be agreed. This post is based in Nottingham.
