Research Fellow In Biochemistry And Molecular Biology

The applicant will work on a NHMRC-funded research project in the McConville group which is located in the University of Melbourne Bio21 Molecular Science and Biotechnology Institute.

The focus of this research is on identifying metabolic pathways in parasitic protozoa that are essential for virulence and are potential drug targets. The applicant will undertake independent research on genetic and biochemical characterization of potential drug targets and also contribute to other research projects in the McConville group, working collaboratively with other members in the research group. The role will involve the development of academic skills in analytical chemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology, and microbiology and is expected to lead to authorship on peer reviewed papers and contribution to conferences. Involvement in routine laboratory management duties and supervision of research students is also envisaged.

The incumbent should have a PhD and experience in one or more of the following areas; microbiology/parasitology, molecular biology, analytical biochemistry/mass spectrometry and protein chemistry.
