Role Description

Centre for Reviews and Dissemination

CRD is a research department (https://www.york.ac.uk/crd) that specialises in evidence synthesis and works across a wide range of health areas to provide best evidence to inform policy and practice decisions. Our research spans health technology assessment, public health and policy and service delivery and organisation, all underpinned by a programme of methodological development. CRD staff come from a range of disciplinary backgrounds and include systematic reviewers, health economists, statisticians, clinicians, information specialists and administrators. Most projects are team-based.

Our largest research programme is in health technology assessment.  This includes Technology Assessment Reviews (TARs) funded by the NIHR Health Technology Assessment Programme, which are undertaken in collaboration with the Centre for Health Economics (CHE).  TAR projects are mostly done for NICE and include critical reviews of manufacturer submissions under the Single Technology Appraisal process, and review, synthesis and modelling under the Multiple Technology Appraisal process and the Diagnostic Assessment Programme.

Research Fellow in Health Economics

The person appointed will work mainly on team-based projects commissioned under the TAR programme.  They may also contribute to economic evaluation and quantitative synthesis across CRD research programmes, which could include undertaking decision analytic modelling, statistical analysis and evidence synthesis, including parametric survival modelling, network meta-analysis and analysis of individual participant data. They will be expected to help plan and develop new research ideas and make funding applications.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • Masters-level qualification in health economics or other quantitative subject and preferably a PhD or equivalent research experience in a relevant discipline.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of health economics and cost-effectiveness analysis and experience of economic evaluation, including applying quantitative methods and decision analytic modelling
  • Detailed knowledge of HTA methods and research techniques and statistical methods used in applied economic evaluation; good understanding of clinical trial methods and the principles of systematic review and meta-analysis
  • Experience of undertaking high quality health-related research
  • Experience of publishing and disseminating research and contribution to the process of securing research funding
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and with stakeholders
