The UCL Department of Respiratory Medicine, has a vacancy for a Research Nurse to work on the IMPACT Study (‘Intervening with a Manualised Package to Achieve Adherence in people with Tuberculosis’). The NIHR funded study aims to improve adherence to TB medication and patient understanding of their illness and its treatment. 

The post-holder will lead on recruitment for the pilot study across four London TB Clinics (The Royal Free, Barts and the London Newham and Mile End Clinics, The Whittington). 

Duties will include the collection of study data, and maintenance of study site files and case report forms while supporting patient care. 


The post will provide a broad experience of clinical research for a nurse with clinical experience relevant to the interests of the group. There is also an opportunity to expand the post-holder’s own research interests and to contribute to the writing of scientific papers and study process evaluation. 

The study is funded from 1 December 2019 to 31 December 2020 in the first instance, with a possibility of contract extension subject to further funding.


The successful applicant will be a registered midwife/nurse of allied health professional,with a good working knowledge of research methodologies and research regulations (eg ICH-GCP). Experience recruiting patients to research studies in NHS settings and prior experience working in a respiratory clinic or experience working with patients would be desirable, but not essential.  

The post-holder will be experienced in communicating with vulnerable individuals and will have a professional commitment to academic research and academic medicine. They will need the skills to work independently and collaboratively, managing their time to deliver key recruitment targets and contributing to the development of the pilot study and process evaluation.
