The Department of Public Health Sciences is a new department at the Faculty of Social Sciences, with approximately 70 employees. We offer a dynamic, interdisciplinary, and internationally leading research environment. The research is mainly organised around two centres: the Centre for Health Equity Studies (CHESS) and the Centre for Social Research on Alcohol and Drugs (SoRAD). The department also offers education in public health sciences at the basic, advanced, and doctoral levels.

Project description

We hereby announce a position as researcher within the research project ”A life course perspective on bereavement in childhood and health problems in adulthood” financed by the Swedish Research Council (VR). The purpose of the project is to investigate whether bereavement (i.e. loss of a family member) during different stages in childhood influences mortality and disease in adulthood and examine factors that explain associations across the life course.

Main responsibilities

The work consists of research within the project “A life course perspective on bereavement in childhood and health problems in adulthood”. The position includes statistical analyses of longitudinal register-based total population data and producing scientific articles in collaboration with researchers within and outside the Department of Public Health Sciences.

Qualification requirements

Researchers are appointed primarily for purposes of research and must hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria

We look for a candidate with a PhD in public health sciences, epidemiology, medicine, sociology, demography, statistics, psychology, economics or a similar subject. You should have extensive experience of data management and quantitative analysis using statistical software such as Stata, SPSS, SAS, or R.

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to scientific competence and productivity, documented skills regarding advanced statistical methods as well as subject-specific knowledge of relevance for the project. Another criterion for assessment is communicative and collaborative skills.

Terms of employment

The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of one year, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date as per agreement.
