This multi-specialty academic practice and children’s hospital is part of an innovative partnership between UNC and Novant Health to provide specialty care to children from southeastern and coastal NC communities. The Novant Health – New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NH-NHRMC) facility and Betty H. Cameron Women’s and Children’s Hospital is a full spectrum community-based children’s hospital that serves as the tertiary care children’s hospital for southeastern NC.
This is a clinically focused position with a strong connection to a large academic group and a quaternary children’s hospital. Candidates must be Board Certified/Board Eligible in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and will join two other full-time intensivists along with additional per diem providers. The unit operates as a closed unit for trauma or surgical admissions. The unit is staffed and supported by nurses, pharmacists, and respiratory therapists with pediatric and neonatal critical care expertise. In addition to advanced respiratory support modalities such as the use of conventional and non-conventional modes of ventilation (e.g.-high-frequency oscillatory ventilation and nitric oxide), complex medical and surgical diagnoses are supported by the multiple pediatric subspecialties in Wilmington and Chapel Hill, including board-certified pediatric surgeons and pediatric anesthesia – allowing for the ability to perform complex surgeries and recovery in the NH-NHRMCPICU.
At NH-NHRMC, there are approximately 2700 total inpatient admissions and 4200 deliveries per year, with referrals from multiple other centers in our region, including a catchment area of approximately 200,000 children.
