The research group, which is part of the research collaboration network “Centre for Bone and Arthritis Research” at the Institute of Medicine, focuses on studying the impact of sex hormones on immunological mechanisms involved in inflammatory diseases and inflammation-induced osteoporosis. The different projects in the group range from basic research (in vitro and in vivo), to clinical studies in collaboration with specialist physicians at the Sahlgrenska University hospital. The research is supported by grants from ALF and the Swedish Research Council.

Job assignments

The researcher will work with breeding and characterization of genetically modified mice in order to answer the research questions posed in the projects. Experimental models of osteoarthritis are used to study effects of estrogen- and adenosin-signalling on immunological responses in these genetically modified mice. Besides animal models, also cell isolation and cell culture techniques are used in the projects. Immunological, histological and molecular biology methods for analysis of cells and tissues will be used. The work also includes writing of grant applications and scientific publications, as well as assistance in supervision of PhD students and other students.


The candidate should have a PhD in a relevant research field and strong scientific productivity. Priority will be given to applicants with experience of rheumatology and osteoporosis research, as well as experimental work with immune cells and cell cultures. Previous experience in working with experimental animal models and breeding of mice is a requirement. Experience of work with intracellular signaling pathways is a merit. Ability of the applicant to independently plan, organize and structure the work is a requirement. The capability to collaborate with others, as well as to work independently is of great importance. Also, proficiency in data management, data analysis and successful authorship of high-quality scientific publications will be evaluated. Excellent communicative skills are required, including fluency in oral and written scientific English. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
