The Institute of Tissue Medicine and Pathology (ITMP) is an institution of the University of Bern, Switzerland with three major tasks: diagnostic service, research and teaching. In total, there are around 220 employees at the Institute. The ITMP provides an attractive setting to perform cutting-edge translational research in direct collaboration with pathologists and oncologists treating patients.

As of October 2025 or by arrangement, the TRU/TBB Division of ITMP is seeking a Scientific Associate 80-100%.

Job Description
The ITMP is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Scientific Associate (Wissenschaftliche:r Mitarbeiter:in) to actively support tissue-based research approaches working with advanced tissue imaging technologies, with a particular emphasis on multiplex imaging using cutting-edge platforms such as MACSima, while providing guidance in image and data analysis, including interpretation and visualization of high-dimensional imaging datasets in collaboration with data scientists and bioinformaticians. Furthermore, you should collaborate closely with internal and external researchers to support project planning. At last, there is opportunity to take on leadership responsibilities as Deputy Head of the Translational Research Unit (TRU), based on performance and interest.
 
Requirements
A PhD or Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences, Life Sciences, Molecular Biology, or a related field is mandatory. The candidate should have experience with multiplex tissue imaging technologies, and a strong background in tissue processing and immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence. Familiarity with digital pathology and image analysis software's is a big advantage. The candidate should be a team player, act responsibly, work independently, and with her/his own initiative to develop new techniques and projects. The candidate should be flexible, enjoy the work and value the interactions in a diverse, young and dynamic team. The candidate should en-joy new things, building internal structures and is willing to take on leadership responsibilities. Good knowledge of English is required.
