Senior Clinical Lecturer in Community Based Medical Education and Deputy Head of MBBS Year 3 (Teaching & Scholarship) 0.5 FTE

The Institute of Health Sciences Education are recruiting for the above post to replace an established post.

The main duties will be taking a leading role in the GP curriculum with particular responsibility for primary care placements in MBBS Year 3 (0.4 FTE). In addition the post-holder will contribute to the development of the wider curriculum as Deputy Head of Year 3 (0.1 FTE).

The post is based in the Community Based Medical Education unit an award winning team responsible providing innovative, transformative learning for students in primary care. The Unit has become a national leader in online learning to support GP placements in undergraduate education.
The Unit also contributes to the Masters in Physicians Associates programme as well as other postgraduate courses offered by the School of Medicine and Dentistry in London and the parallel MBBS programme in Malta. The MBBS is expanding rapidly with a particular emphasis of community-oriented education in east London.

The post holder will further develop the two Year 3 placements in the first instance (GP3, a longitudinal attachment and GP-CD – the Community Diagnosis) embedding primary care themes: Generalist practice; health equity, community orientation and compassionate patient-centredness. The role includes GP tutor development, applying evidence-based and creative pedagogy, devising materials, communications and assessments, practice approval, evaluation and quality assurance. The role may evolve with other opportunities in the Unit and the Institution arising over time.

As Deputy Head of Year 3 MBBS the post holder will be a member of the Year 3 Working Group and report to the Head of Year 3 (a hospital physician) to deliver the integrated programme and the revised curriculum “Graduate 2025”

The post holder will be a primary care clinician and contribute to the intellectual life of the Institute, School and University. They will bring significant experience in medical education, curriculum development and evidence of higher learning in pedagogy. Experience leading innovation and undertaking educational research would be very welcome. The post holder is expected to maintain their Licence to practise during the time of the appointment.

Salary will be £82,096-89,809 per annum pro-rata (commiserate with SAGP honorary consultant 2003 consultant contract)
