Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Biostatistics and Clinical Epidemiology


At the Technical University of Munich (TUM) the position as Tenure Track Assistant Professor for »Biostatistics and Clinical Epidemiology« in grade W2 (limited to 6 years, with tenure track on W3) is to be filled at the earliest possible date, at the latest on 01.10.2020. The professorship is funded by the Bund-Länder-Program for the Promotion of Young Scientists (Tenure Track Program).


Scientific environment

The professorship is assigned to the Faculty of Medicine and located there in the Institute of Medical Informatics, Statistics and Epidemiology at the Klinikum rechts der Isar. The Faculty of Medicine is one of the strongest research and teaching centers in Germany. Interdisciplinary and translational research characterizes the faculty's image. Cooperation opportunities within the Faculty of Medicine, with the natural and life science faculties of the TUM, with the LMU and non-university research partners, the DIFUTURE consortium as well as the successful special research areas of the TUM open up an excellent scientific environment.


The tasks include research and teaching as well as support and promotion of young scientists. We are looking for an expert in the field of biostatistics and clinical epidemiology. Successful applicants develop innovative methods for data science and big data analysis to identify prognostic and predictive factors. One of the tasks in teaching is participation in the bachelor and master programs of the TUM. In addition, the future professor should ensure that students and scientists of the Faculty of Medicine are supported in the application of statistical methods.


We are looking for a personality with the first scientific achievements and the potential to develop an independent research program at the highest international level. A university degree, an above-average doctorate or a comparable special qualification for scientific work, special pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English, are also a prerequisite. International research experience is expected. Applicants are expected to have proven competence in attracting competitive funding for research funding (eg DFG, BMBF, EU) as well as in leading research projects. The acquisition of personal research funding (Heisenberg, ERC, etc.) is desired.

Profound knowledge in modern methods of biostatistics and clinical epidemiology, in the design, care and analysis of clinical trials and clinical trials as well as in the analysis of multivariate and high-dimensional data is required.
