Health Sciences - Tenure-track Faculty Position

The Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa invites applications for one tenure-track faculty position in the School of Nursing whose research program is related to issues facing areas of seniors’ health including but not limited to specific conditions, ethical issues, family care giving, healthy aging, etc.


Created in 1933 we are celebrating our 85th anniversary as a research-intensive School of Nursing. The School of Nursing has an international and national reputation for excellence in research and teaching within a dynamic climate of advocacy and service. The School of Nursing is one of the largest Schools within the Faculty and includes over 1,800 undergraduate students, 200 Master’s students (thesis, clinical, and Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner options) and 30 doctoral students. All programs are offered in both official languages (French and English) where students can complete their degree in the language stream of their choice.


The academic environment within the School of Nursing includes formal partnerships with the major health care institutions in Ottawa to enhance research capacity and implementation of best practices. The School of Nursing is situated within the Faculty of Health Sciences, which includes 4 other health related schools (School of Rehabilitation Sciences, School of Human Kinetics, School of Nutrition Science, and School of Interdisciplinary Health Sciences) creating an environment conducive to interdisciplinary scholarly activities. The Faculty of Health Sciences is the home of three innovative research environments. The first is the Centre for Research on Health & Nursing. The second is the LIFE Research Institute, which focuses on improving health along the trajectory of life bringing together researchers whose programs range from genetics to policy development. The third is the Centre for Interprofessional Health Care and Research, which is a partnership with the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Care.

  • Registered Nurse, eligible for registration with the College of Ontario.
  • PhD in Nursing or related Health Field (Master’s degree in Nursing preferred if PhD in related Health Field).
  • Postdoctoral experience in research preferred
  • A demonstrated excellent research track record or promising program of research.
  • Excellent communication skills in either English or French. Passive knowledge of the other official language in Canada is a requirement for tenure but not hire. English-French bilingualism is an asset.



  • Scholarly activities including a developed or developing program of research
  • Teaching activities at the undergraduate and graduate level
  • Academic service activities within the School, Faculty, and or University
  • Supervision of graduate students.
  • Leading the profession and discipline

Terms: Tenure-track position.


Salary: Salary scale for an assistant professor starts at $85,280


Benefits package: The University of Ottawa provides a complete compensation package that includes long-term disability, basic group life insurance, supplementary health insurance, University of Ottawa Pension Plan and optional life insurance. Successful candidates may be eligible for relocation expenses in accordance with University policy.
