Tenure-track Position in Health Sciences

The Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa is accepting applications for one tenure-track faculty position in the School of Human Kinetics with scholarly expertise in the field of biomechanics and/or neuromechanics, with an emphasis on advanced data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) for the optimization of human health and performance.

The School of Human Kinetics (SHK) provides a bilingual, interdisciplinary academic and research environment in which to study the biophysical and social contributions of physical, activity, sport, and leisure and their interrelationship with the health of individuals, communities, and societies. Providing both undergraduate and graduate training, the SHK is committed to educating capable graduates who wish to positively impact society through their knowledge, skills, and competencies related to the benefits of physical activity, sport, and leisure.

Located on the ancestral land of the Algonquin people, the University of Ottawa, situated near many national agencies including Health Canada, Statistics Canada, and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, is recognized as the first and largest bilingual university in North America. The University provides its 40,000 students and 5,500 employees a dynamic and stimulating environment where research and knowledge are fundamental to all aspects of university life.

Specific areas of interests for this position include but are not limited to: computational biomechanics; AI and machine learning, big data analytics and pattern recognition; wearable technology and sensors; as well as neuro-musculoskeletal and/or finite-element models of human tissues and movement.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Biomechanics, Neuromechanics, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Strong portfolio of scholarly research with evidence to obtain external funding (including Tri-Council funding) and develop and sustain a competitive research program.
  • Ability to demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and the supervision of undergraduate and graduate students

It is expected that the selected candidate would spearhead and sustain a competitive, externally funded program of research involving graduate student supervision. Because the University of Ottawa is Canada’s premier bilingual University, preference will be given to candidates who are bilingual (French/English) and who are able to teach in both languages. Passive knowledge of the other language in Canada is a requirement for tenure.

Responsibilities:

  • Scholarly activities including a developed or developing program of research;
  • Teaching activities at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
  • Academic service activities within the School, Faculty, and/or University;
  • Supervision of graduate students; and
  • Leading the profession and discipline

Salary:

Salary scale for a tenure-track assistant professor starts at $86,986
